ABOUT

At The Little Nest Playgroups, we proudly welcome all families and celebrate the rich diversity that makes our community strong. We are inclusive of every family structure- whether you're a single parent, part of a blended, LGBTQ+, adoptive, or foster family, or any other loving caregiver, you have a place here!
We are committed to creating an environment where children of all abilities, including those with special needs, feel safe, supported, and valued. Our goal is to offer a warm, accessible, and enriching space where every child and caregiver can play, learn, and grow together.

The Little Nest
C l a s s r o o m
At our Oshawa location we have set up a classroom for children to explore activities anytime. We include Montessori materials, educational toys, sensory activities, arts & crafts, musical instruments, and gross motor equipment.
At other locations the classes are teacher led, and change weekly with the new theme. They include a variety of educational activities and lessons. These classes are located at Montessori schools in Durham Region to help bridge the gap between home and school. All families are welcome!

for an Authentic
Montessori Program

1. TRAINED MONTESSORI TEACHERS:
Properly trained Montessori teachers have the knowledge and expertise to guide a proper class through an authentic Montessori program
2. THE MULTI-AGE CLASSROOM
Proper 3 year spans that facilitate mentorship within the classroom that encourages leadership skills among the students
3. MONTESSORI MATERIALS
We make sure we have broad span of authentic Montessori materials in all of the programs in our school. The materials are kept beautiful and are removed/replaced if broken.
4. CHILD DIRECTED WORK
Students are given the freedom to choose their own work, leading to intrinsic motivation and sustained concentration.
5. UNINTERRUPTED WORK CYCLES
Children work at their own pace without interruption from the teachers. These work cycles last 2-3.5 hours depending on the child's age.
6. RESPECT THE INDIVIDUAL CHILD
We understand that each child is different, and strive to meet their unique needs and interests. Teachers provide tailored support for each child while respecting their individual work cycle.
7. COLLABORATION AND COMMUNITY
Children are encouraged to understand the importance of working-together through group projects and community service initiatives.
